lorelei” is a solo based on the mystery and seduction of the folklore of the Sirens and Selkies, half woman, half creature. Named after the German legend of a Siren living on the Rhine River, this piece uses hyper-detailed movement and strategic obfuscation of the face to create a hypnotic feeling, the allure of the Siren. Most of the movement exists in the upper body, naked , seated with my the dancer’s back to the audience. This placement of the piece echoes the split identity of the female image, which inspires it. “lorelei” intends to explore a duality of the female experience through the lens of the Selkie folklore, having the potential to be equally grotesque and goddess simultaneously.
