Baryshnikov Arts Center - Open Residency

While in residency at the BAC, Thryn will be working with 8 dance artists and composer Bre Short in continuing the development of Seolh an evening length piece set to premiere in Summer/Fall of 2024. Together this group of women will be exploring themes of female power, seduction and intuition, legacy and ancestral wisdom, connection to the animal world, and what it means to develop a new folklore. Ilana Gilovich-Wave will be observing the process and writing a fictional piece about the work and the residency to be published when the residency concludes.

The residency runs from October 23rd - November 4th. To help pay these incredible artists for their time we are trying to raise $8,000. Your donations, any dollar amount, help cover the costs of artists travel, food, and artist fees during the residency. With the fiscal sponsorship of Unique Projects, Pentacle all of your donations are now tax-deductible and can be made on the DONATE page. We are so grateful for your support! Meet the artists your contribution will help support.

Thryn Saxon

Director

Thryn is a dancer, teacher, and director of her NYC based company SAXYN Dance Works. Thryn has performed with Sleep No More, Kate Weare Company, Helen Simoneau Danse and is currently in her first season with Doug Varone and Dancers.

Thryn’s work is committed to telling stories through dance that amplify women, expand the imagination, and sit deeply in vulnerability. Inspired by the vivacity and cross-cultural connections of her Miami roots, the geometric electricity of her home in NYC, and her love of theater and cinema, Saxon’s work investigates hope, power, sensuality, and effort. Collaboration is a vital component of the work and centers the ethos of the room, encouraging both communication and risk taking.
